Terra Formation is an experience designed to raise awareness among new generations of students about careers in the energy transition. Through two paths, users can discover up to 32 different careers!
Funded by Dijon Métropole and developed in collaboration with the Green City Campus of Trades, EDF, and Enedis, the game was designed and developed by Da Viking Code.
The first path is a physical route dedicated to the Fontaine d'Ouche district in Dijon. It is aimed at middle and high school students from the region who can visit the site. The path is geolocated, and users must complete the steps one by one, moving to the different proposed locations to continue.
The second path is designed for online use, for those who cannot travel to the Fontaine d'Ouche district. It consists of two parts: the first replicates the physical path without the geolocation-related blocking, and the second includes about ten points of interest located in Dijon and its nearby surroundings.
Each step in these paths features a quiz with one or more questions related to energy transition careers. Once the step is completed, the user unlocks a collection of "career cards". Each card can then be explored in the library to discover the career it reveals. A presentation video, the missions, the required skills, and the training path to pursue that career are all available.
We have given a major role to gamification in this project by integrating a large number of engagement mechanics such as the collection system, achievement and progress, quests, badges, unlocking, and storytelling, among others.
Each gamification element serves the goal of discovery and engagement for the young users of the project.
The graphics were also adapted to the target audience and are inspired by Fortnite, a popular video game among young people. The different characters and illustrations were created using artificial intelligence tools. This project was an excellent test for using such tools to accelerate and improve production, while staying within the budget allocated for development.
