Developing institutional applications can often present numerous hidden challenges. Planète Liège is an application, available for both iOS and Android, providing information on winemaking and particularly the cork role. The cork plays a vital role in keeping wine in perfect condition. In the museum, the application can also be used to track the physical exhibition, which includes a large frieze showcasing the chronological processes of winemaking. This frieze, containing QR Codes, can be scanned by the application to access additional contents.
To control the development cost of the application, we used a cross-platform technology: Adobe AIR. However, we had to develop our own Adobe AIR Native Extension to perform QR Codes scan on the native side (using Objective-C and Java) to improve performance.
