We were contacted by the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud, the largest abbey in Europe, to participate in the development of the iBar software.
Inside the main chapel, several touch-screen displays provide information on the history of the Royal Abbey of Fontevraud:
• the reign of Eleanor of Aquitaine
• a Quiz about the abbey
• A Pacman-like game tells the story of a prisoner during the time when the abbey was a prison after the French Revolution
• and many more...
The iBar software was developed for PC and work as an iPad: a main screen enables users to select and launch applications. Additionally, it permits up to four users to use shared programs simultaneously, such as the Quiz.
This was our first time working with a museum, and we faced new challenges: finding ways to detect crashes and notify someone to restart. Additionally, we had to update the program on each computer without human intervention. Luckily, we were able to tackle these challenges thanks to the Adobe AIR platform.
