Moulinex released its Companion device, a multifunction cooking robot, in 2019. To showcase the product at the international gastronomy fair in Dijon, the company offered a unique experience of cooking recipes in Virtual Reality.
To achieve this, a 3D model of a kitchen with a countertop was created. The user can then follow the recipe instructions using a virtual TV within the 3D scene.
Numerous interactions were coded to enhance immersion. These included opening and closing the refrigerator, manipulating food, chopping ingredients with a knife, opening and closing the faucet to fill a container with water, fluid transfer, and using the Companion. All of these interactions were accompanied by gamification feedback to make the experience more enjoyable.
